“Monga” Movie Review: The TW Gangster Life

Ever wondered what it would be like to live in Taipei during the 80’s, before it became the bustling commerce and international city it is today? It is hard to imagine such a Taipei as the one that is introduced to us in the film “Monga”, a Taiwanese movie recently released on DVD this month.

Monga captures the life of the “Gangster” as it was circa 1980 in Taipei, Taiwan. Taiwanese culture is shown with a great deal of character throughout the movie and all the actors did a wonderful job of being believable. However, I forewarn everyone that this movie may “shock” some of those who are familiar with the beautiful things about the modern day Taipei.

Monga delves deep into what it was like in the 80’s as a gangster and therefore shows a bit of a darker side of life. Believe me when I tell you that you will be torn in a million pieces by the time the movie is finished. I have to admit I cried several times during the film. I have included the official trailer of Monga below and I encourage everyone to purchase this DVD!
